What Type of Wine is Pinot Noir ?

Many of our readers have asked," What type of wine is Pinot Noir
?"
Pinot Noir is a type of grape and the red wine is therefore
named after them. The name comes from the French words "pine"
and "black," an apt description of the grape color and
shape.
Although these grapes are grown all over the world, they are
primarily from the Burgandy region. Although these grapes
produce some of the most popular wines, they are difficult to
cultivate.
The skin of the Pinot Noir grape is thin and therefore very
fragile. Any change in climate can affect them.
The taste of these
wines changes over time. In the beginning fruit flavors are
predominant but then as the wines age, that fruity flavor is
combined by a flavor of some of the other vegetation.
The Pinot Noir wines received an even bigger fan base after
the movie was released. In here the main
character absolutely adores these wines and is more than happy
to point this out to anyone who will listen. This wine snobbery
granted the movie seven Golden Globe nominations, and two
Golden Globe Awards and launched the sales of these wines
through the roof.
Interested in trying some Pinot Noir wines? Here are a few
that we like:
Adelsheim 2007 Pinot Noir - Red Wine
Adelsheim 2007 Pinot Noir - Red Wine from Willamette Valley,
Oregon. With its wide variety of origins and clones, this wine
displays both red and black fruit aromas of cherries and
raspberries on the nose and the palate. In addition, a light
touch of brown spices such as nutmeg, cinnamon, allspice, and
even a little black pepper. It is elegantly textured with
satiny, polished tannins showing in the finish. Pair it with
salmon or ahi, veal or pork, duck or beef, or hearty vegetarian
entrees.
Amity 2007 Eco-Wine Pinot Noir (sulfite-free) - Red
Wine
- Red Wine
Red Wine by Amity from Willamette Valley, Oregon. Our 2007
Eco-Wine? Pinot noir has a pleasant aroma of berries and red
fruits, predominantly cherry and cranberry, with a hint of
spice and vanilla. In the mouth it is smooth with a long
pleasant finish. It is ideal for pastas, black beans, fish,
chicken and picnic fare.
Belle Glos 2007 Las Alturas Vineyard Pinot Noir - Red
Wine
- Red Wine
Red Wine by Belle Glos from Central Coast, California. Located
in one of the highest-plantable sites in the Santa Lucia
Highlands of Monterey County, this pristine bench offers the
Las Alturas Vineyard cool, coastal days with consistent
sunshine and a foundation of Gloria sandy loam soil. When
planting this 15-acre vineyard, we matched various Pinot Noir
clones to individual slopes and soil attributes of the land.
Our yields are deliberately kept low in order to preserve the
fruit intensity these clonal choices have given us. Plummy
black cherry and sweet black licorice aromas lead to layered
flavors of rich plum and light notes of bright tobacco. This
earthy but elegant wine is supported by a lush, velvety texture
and long, fruit-driven finish.
Carneros Creek 2005 Pinot Noir Grail - Red
Wine
- Red Wine
Red Wine by Carneros Creek from Carneros, California. This wine
is the result of careful selections of our best lots of Pinot
Noir, with judicious use of French oak. Ruby in color, the wine
shows a fusion of ripe red cherry and spice aromas, with subtle
hints of creme brulee in the background. A lush, velvety
texture up front leads to concentrated cherry and blackberry
flavors, with hints of vanilla, caramel and cedar in the
finish. The wine shows fine-grained tannins, with enough
acidity to keep the fruit lively and add length to the palate.
Sixteen months in barrel has created a sense of integration and
harmony in the wine, which, while drinking nicely now, will
continue to evolve for three or so years to come. Refreshing
ripe, vibrant, complex and fruit driven, with full bodied black
cherry, plum and wild berry fruit that's rich and focused,
ending with a long, layered finish. Drink now through 2014.
