Personalized Wine bottles come from regions from all over the world. Some are made in New York, some California, some in Europe and so on. They all have a tinted glass to help protect the wine from heat and light. The thickness of the glass can vary from wine maker to wine maker, as can the bottle size. One of the main differences that you may see lately is the type of wine cork used. The traditional cork is being used with less frequency due to several factors. Traditional corks cost more and often crumble destroying the wine that they are there to preserve. They can also allow fungus to grow causing the cork and the wine to smell bad.

The new plastic corks help prevent corkage or the breakup of the cork into the wine. Many traditionalists are appalled by the use of these new plastic corks. The plastic corks do not preserve wines as well because they allow too much oxygen to get to the wine. So unless you are getting a fairly young bottle of wine and intend to drink it right away these wines would not be ones you would save for a special occassion.

Yet another innovation in the wine industry is the screw cap top. Yes, those same screw tops that very inexpensive wines have used for years are going main stream. The only problem is, in addition to the complete lack of romance associated from unscrewing your bottle of wine, that too little air gets into the bottle and so your wine may be reduced too much causing a foul odor. Again if you do buy these type of wines make sure that they are fairly young and that you drink them quickly. There is too little data on how these wines will fair over the years.
