what kind of wine is pinot noir

What Kind of Wine is Pinot Noir ?

Pinot noir is a red grape that is one of the main grapes used in wines produced in Burgundy.

This grape produces a wonderful silky wine but it can also be a very fickle grape. In other words when it is good it is very good and when it is bad, well you get my point. This grape peaks early and is much more fragile than most of the other grapes making it very susceptible to the elements. Because of the thinner skin of these grapes, the resulting wine is a lighter colored red.

One might say that this grape has a multiple personality disorder. As a young wine it has a fruity flavor but as it ages it begins to take on the taste of vegetation overlayed over the fruity tones. The wines can be enjoyed both in their young state and as a further aged wine, depending on your taste preference.

Although the odds tend to be against this grape, when the elements all come together the wine produced is silky and delicious. It is no wonder that this is one of the most popular types of wine.
